As the summer break approaches, you may feel overwhelmed at the thought of having to entertain your young ones constantly. However, it’s not a bad thing to think that way, as it is a big change from your kids being at school all day to being with you 24/7. With that said, it is important to have a few activities in mind to keep your kids entertained, so here are a few tips on how to keep your kids happy and healthy this summer.
Physical Education
School may be over, but there are still ways for your kids to learn through play. Try signing them up to a physical activity course so that they can still be learning throughout the summer, but also keeping healthy too. It is so important to keep your kids moving in the summer in order to promote bone, muscle and general body health, but it is also great for their mental health.
Baking
Stuck for ideas on a rainy summer’s day? Baking is always a winner with the kids. If you don’t like the idea of making sugary, unhealthy cakes and cookies, then why not try some healthier options with the kids? There are so many healthy, sweet recipes to try out like oat bars, fruit tarts and so much more. Your kids will love to help you decorate your sweet treat once it has been baked. Baking is such a fun activity for everyone involved – it also means you have a little treat lined up for after dinner!
Splash Around!
The best childhood memories for kids are splashing around in the garden. There are so many different ways to keep them entertained with water. A paddling pool is a great option and isn’t too expensive either. Sprinklers are also a great way to play with water, by playing run from the sprinkler or jumping right through! If you have a hose in your garden, playing tag with the hose is also a great game and your plants will get a good watering too. Another great game to play is to lay out some tarpaulin, create a water stream with a hose at the top, and squeeze a bit of dish soap down it to create the ultimate slip and slide.
Chalk
Letting kids draw on the pavement/deck with chalk will keep them entertained for hours. You could even draw a hopscotch grid on the floor for them. Give them ideas of things to draw like tic-tac-toe or random doodles and sketches. It will wash off with water, so you don’t have to worry about them making a mess.
Once you have an idea of the sort of activities that you and your kids like, it might be worth writing them on a list to refer back to on those days when you just can’t think of any way to entertain them. Make sure you and your kids have a great summer together by playing and staying healthy.
