Becoming a Mom after IVF Treatment

The process of IVF can be a long and grueling one.  Not only is the process hard on a woman’s body, it is hard on a woman emotionally and mentally as well.  Once an IVF treatment is successful, there are some steps women can take to prepare for motherhood.  IVF treatment is only the first step to raising a happy and healthy child.

The first important step in preparing for motherhood after IVF treatment at Pacific Reproductive Center of Los Angeles or other fertility clinics that have a proven track record of success. Then to make sure you have a strong support system of family and friends.  Having a newborn has its own trials and tribulations, which are only heightened after IVF treatment.  Having a support system to help with cooking, cleaning, and even just having a shoulder to lean on can make a world of difference in the beginning of motherhood.

There are times when the sleepless nights may feel like too much.  It is ok to feel this way and admit to it.  Kids are hard.  Keep in mind that you’re only human, and it is perfectly ok to feel overwhelmed.  Pregnancy is already a difficult process on the human body.  Adding fertility treatments on top of a normal pregnancy make it nothing short of a miracle.  Having a strong support system can help make those difficult times of being a new mom a little more bearable.

Be sure to always make time for yourself.  This may sound crazy since motherhood is all about being there for you newborn.  However, the best thing you can do for your new little human is making sure you are the best version of yourself for them.  It is not selfish.  On the contrary, it is quite selfless.   The more of your best self you can give to your child, the better off they will be for it.

Trust your own instincts.  Reading books, taking classes, and watching videos of how to be a new mom are all great supplements.  However, nothing quite prepares you for the experience like actually doing the deed.  There’s a reason the term “mother’s intuition” exists and it is because moms truly do have a natural instinct that helps them take care of their children.

Ask for help.  The beauty of being a new mom is that you are not alone.  If you are lucky, you’ll have your own mom, mother-in-law, aunts, sisters, friends whom you can turn to for advice.  If not, there is no shortage of “mom groups” you can join, which will help you to be connected with people who understand exactly what you are going through as a new mom after IVF treatment.

Being a new mom is never an easy thing, and it is even more difficult after you have undergone the grueling process of IVF treatment.  However, there are plenty of moms out there who have been in a similar situation, who figured it out and who raised happy, healthy, and prosperous children.  The best thing you can do to prepare for motherhood after IVF is to curate a strong support group, do not be afraid to ask for help, take some time to yourself, and always follow your gut instinct.
