Does anyone suffer from Anxiety Attacks?  Panic Attacks?

I suffer from them occasionally, and had a really bad one today, and I was re-reading some stuff, and read that it is considered a mental illness.  I don't know exactly what that means, but I'm not exactly sure if I would consider it a "Mental Illness"

Thoughts?

I had panic or anxiety attacks with postpartum depression. I remember thinking I couldn't breathe, or crying and getting hysterical until I hyperventilated. Not fun  scared

Yikes!  I have never suffered from them but I would have to agree that it is part of your mental health.

I hope you can figure out the cause.

Instead of treating a panic attack with drugs try talking your way thru them. Sometimes if you have a close friend talk you thru them it helps a lot. The more anxious you become the worse the attack will be. It can feel like it is taking you breath away, there are meds available to help decrease some of the anxiety but most of the time I feel it is better to figure out what your trigger is and work thru it. This is the nurse in me talking. I have taken care of quite a few people with panic and anxiety attacks.

I was prescribed with xanax, but someone stole them, so I havn't been using any sort of drugs at all... They are far apart and stuff, so I never know when they're coming.  I am just freaking out that I had one out of nowhere, for what I think to be NO reason.

sick The attack was probably not out of no where something triggered it, it will take a little bit for you to figure it out. Did you have a fight with hubby  arguing, did the kids drive u crazy  Roll Eyes, did the kids do something wrong that will make hubby crazy . Did something go wrong at the store it can be something that can make you sad  Cry also not just scared or mad. It may seem unimportant but thoses are the things that trigger an attack. When you have a whole mess of stuff sitting on your shoulders all it takes is one small thing to trigger an attack. Not getting enough sleep does not help either  snoring and we know that no mother gets enough sleep. LOL
Hope this helps. The xanax is a good thing you just need to know y the attacks, xanax is addictive.

I know what things sort of triggered the attack-but i have had these same issues off and on recently, and then just one day it came out of nowhere---i haven't had on in 6 months or so!

DH's ex is causing major problems for us right now, and is brainwashing my step daughter and its makin things very very hard for us... The woman needs to be on medication, have her tubes tied, and have lots of parenting classes...and personality disorder help.  I'm not saying this cause i dislike her or anything, anyone that has had interaction with her KNOWS. lol

I have been having, not attacks, but issues. Like I will have thoughts that we will get killed while I am driving my kids around. It is not to the point where I freeze, but I get really nervous, until we go to our destination. I may have to talk to my doctor about this, because it seems to get a little worse each time.

I have them.  Actually, it turns out I have them plus PSVT (paroxysmal supraventicular tachycardia) which is  heart condition that looks a lot like panic attacks.  Sometimes it is hard to tell them apart.  I am supposed to take cardiac meds for the PSVT.  For things that I know are panic attacks, with triggers I can recognize like heights or claustrophobia, I am a big proponent of Rescue Remedy.  It is completely natural, made from flower essences, and they also have a formula to help you sleep.

Oh my goodness! I can not imagine how that feels. You are in my thoughts though. (There needs to be a hug icon)

Aimee, I'm sorry I missed this post!  I suffer from them, have since high school.  Don't know why (I don't get many any more), and my girls get them too.  I try to stay away from drugs, although during really bad times I have taken them (mother's death, divorce)...but now when I feel them coming on, I just use visualization and biofeedback and go for a walk...sounds simplistic, but it is the best thing.  I had to learn as a teen to tell myself I wasn't dying from them because that is the way you feel...very scary!  You have so much stress in your life with "her" and if you haven't tried biofeedback, I would...I swear by it...

Willow, I'm so sorry, sounds like you have a lot to deal with too.   I would like to know more about the rescue Remedy...

Here's the link for Rescue Remedy: http://www.rescueremedy.com/

It's safe for people and even pets -- lots of people around here (where thunderstorms are a daily occurrence) give them to their pets if the pets are scared of storms.  It's natural which is what I like about it and it doesn't zone me out like Xanax or Ativan.

I am still having some anxiety issues Sad some days are better than others.  Most days now I just odn't want to get out of bed, b/c i'm afraid of waht might happen Sad  I'm trying to be more positive, so I don't throw myself into a depression.  DH thinks I should get a job, and that we should exercise every night together. Yeah neither of those are working. LOL

Aimee, sounds serious if you aren't getting out of bed.  I think you need to go back to the DR sweetie.  It's ok to be on a low dose of something like atavan (sp) or xanax daily for a period and you won't become addicted.  your wellbeing is important.  i'm no Dr. but i've been there and it is scary as all get out!  if they are being stolen, keep them on you at all times.  you take care of you or you are no good to anyone else...

keep in tough with us.
