Children turning 11 are in a Catch 22 position. On the one hand, they have passed beyond childhood.  On the other hand, they have little perspective about their past, and if they did it would not help them navigate their immediate future. They are about to enter a whole new realm of unexpected upheaval,  inner angst and gnawing uncertainty. Both emotionally and physically, they will go through a revolution like no other in their lives, except for toddlerhood. Nothing of being a child can prepare them for becoming a tween.
