Fit mothers losing custody of their children

As you may know, in the U.S. and abroad, fit mothers that have been primary caregivers of their children are losing custody of those children to absent fathers and former domestic and sexual violence perpetrators.  When mothers report family violence they stand to lose their children because they are not believed. There is a psychological "diagnosis" that is being used against mothers to take away their children.  It is called parental alienation syndrome.  It in fact, is NOT a diagnosis because it hasn't been accepted by any scientific organizations--but the APA is considering adding it to the upcoming DSM.  This "syndrome" is used to blame mothers for the actions of the child when the child refuses or has difficulties with his/her relationship with the other parent.  Proponents claim that both mothers and fathers are victims, yet fathers are the only ones that have been successful utilizing this claim and removing children from mothers.
