16  A Mom's Life / Married Moms / Re: Just a few questions on: May 30, 2008, 04:34:38 PM
1. How long have you been married?
5 years on June 20!

2. Where did you meet your husband?
Match.com  thumbs up

3. How did he propose?
He took me to a great nice dinner, then home and after I got into jammies (He was renting the master bedroom from a family at the time - I lived almost 2 hours away so I stayed there on weekends - I slept in his big comfy bed and he slept downstairs on the couch haha).
He came in from the bathroom and took me in there w/ him.  He'd lit candles and stuff and sat me down on the egde of the tub -feet inside it.  He got in and washed me feet while reading me Bible scripture about Jesus washing the disciples' feet and such (I'm horrible, I forget the exact passage).  SO romantic and cute.  Then he asked me to be his wife and I said: "yeah." hahaha

That's why we moved out of the city.  Everyone was so concerned with having the best car, the nicest house, the best toys (meaning like dune buggies, RVs and junk - there are lots of sand rats in in So. California!), the "smartest" kids, etc etc etc.
It made me SICK on a regular basis - and they all have kids and are teaching them the same thing - STUFF = happiness.  UGH!

I try to recycle almost everything I possibly can.  The CFL lightbulbs scare me (if they break, you're DOOMED) so I only have one on the porch for now.
I use my own canvas bags when shopping.
I try to save water.
We're also going to start our own mini-farm!  I want to be as close to 100% self-sufficient with our produce as possible.  I also want to raise a few cows for family consumption.
Cheesy

That's my baby boy doggie Charlie (and my human son).  He's a german shepherd/irish wolfhound mix and he's the sweetest dog ever!
We had his sister too (she looked more like a shepherd) but she mysteriously disappeared (and Charlie came home that day w/ gashes on his front legs) so we think a bobcat got her. Sad  We are way out in the boonies and are backed up to 40 acres of BLM, but Charlie's the smart one and almost always stays near the house.

I'm sure if I wasn't on dial-up I'd be right there with you! Cheesy

27  A Mom's Life / Earth "Crunchy" Moms / Re: Am I crunchy? on: May 21, 2008, 02:46:33 PM
I cloth diaper - though not exclusively as I am trying to battle a hard-water issue currently. Smiley
But I made about 80% of my son's baby food, I breastfed him until he was 13 months (he weaned on his own, sadly), I never wore him (couldn't afford a GOOD carrier), we co-slept for many months, I try to go as organic/free-range/no-antibiotic/etc as I can with our food... etc etc.
I'm not 100% crunchy, but pretty close.
I stopped Vaxing my son at 6 months (after a horrible event where the nurse gave my son the WRONG VACCINE and came in and was all dumb and "oops! That was the wrong one, let me go get the right one..."  His pediatrician didn't even come in and say anything after I heard him in the hallway talking to the nurse about it!
GRRRRRRR.
Anyway, I plan on starting again once he hits 2.  I'll be getting the MMR in 3 separate shots, and am going to only do one aluminum-containing shot at a time.  I'm also not doing the varivax until he's 10, and that's only if he's been shown to NOT have immunity yet through a blood test.

Sarah Jewel, that is so awesome ... is that your real name?

I laughed at your blog and left a comment.  Then I had to re-read your post here in the forum because I thought you got kidney stones from your system so you had to go on dial up.  Sheesh I read way too fast for my own good.  Next thing you know I am rewiring the house so I don't have pain when I pee.  good lord Wink

Yes, Sarah Jewel is my first and middle name. Smiley  I used to HAAAATE it but I adore it now!  I go by that, plain Sarah, or SJ most of the time.

Oh goodness.  If only dial-up REALLY cured kidney stones! lol  It's be so happy right now! Smiley
29  Family, Home and Life / Parenting/Mom Issues / Re: Co-Sleeping on: May 20, 2008, 02:58:13 PM
We co-slept for the first few months.  It was just too exhausting getting up every 2 or fewer hours to nurse him then put us both back to bed, then get up again... and again...
I always put him to sleep in his own bed, then when he woke up again I'd take him to bed with me (or put him back in his crib - depending on what time it was and how late I'd planned on staying up).
Co-sleeping can be great, but it also has to be done SAFELY.

I turned 26 in March.  Had my first "old" experience that day, too.
I was at Disneyland and saw a girl in line ahead of me w/ a birthday button like mine.  I said hi, her friend asked how old I was.  They she replied "Oh.. she's not THAT old!" about her friend's age.

UGH.  Though I really don't feel old at ALL usually.  I don't think I'll hit that old-feeling til I'm 40+.
