Did you all read about how even ice cream vendors will need background checks now (this in Rapid City, South Dakota)?

What could be more innocent or more evocative of childhood summers than lining up to be served by the ding-a-ling ice cream man? Except of course he could be a pervert/ kidnapper/ serial molester/ child rapist...

Sigh, nothing's sacred.

I actually think it's a good thing to check out anyone who is going to be working with children.

Sadly, you could very well be right. Reflection of the times and all that.

I agree with Audrey. Sadly, times have changed and we need to keep kids safe.

It would also help if parents went with their children to the ice cream truck instead of just sending them out running for the road. (Hey I can use a yummy treat as well!)

It is a sad commentary of our times.  Here is this area several communities are doing the same, and some are banning them altogether.

It's a spreading trend, then. Sigh.

Put it this way, I would not let my child go to an ice cream vendor in our neighborhood.
Too many weirdos. I'm sorry.
We have our ice cream at home.
Sadly.... you can't be too careful.

I remember as kid going to the ice cream truck that came around our neighborhood.  There is no way I would let my son do that.  We will have our ice cream at home as well.

We'll go out the front with the kids to get ice cream from Mr Whippy, but not let them go alone.

I don't let the kids go out the front on their own anyway, except if Wren is going three doors up to her friend's place and even then I usually watch to make sure she makes it there.

I hate being paranoid, but the risk is just too real and scary.
I'd never forgive myself if anything happened to either of them & I could have done something. Sad
