I am ready to start expanding the content of my blog.  This is something I have planned on doing all along, touching on some difficult topics like mental wellness issues, the challenges of being a caregiver and the aftermath of infidelity.  These are all woman-related issues (or at least that will be my focus) but I can't decide if I should have a completely separate blog (or at least a blog on a subdomain) for this rather than combining it all under Apron Strings and Angst.  I guess I'm kinda thinking separating it with at least the subdomain is a good idea so that folks who drop in for a casual read aren't having to wade through the heavier stuff.  Is that what you guys would do?  I would really appreciate your opinions.

If you have enough material for a separate blog and you plan to do a lot of posting on the other subjects I would start another blog.  But, if you plan to just post like once a week I would do it on your regular blog and have a certain day each week that you focus on the diffiuclt topics.

I like the advice given.
I have three blogs and only post on two regularly. I just don't have the time to devote to posting on the third regularly like i'd want to. HAd I thought about it, I would have done what was mentioned and post one day a week on my "topic" and not leave a blog to go to waste.
but if you have enough, then have at a brand new blog!

Hi Willow, I'm going to do something similar, although not for a few months.

What I plan to do is add another blog in a sub~folder of my existing domain.
So it will be like a sub~blog.

Does that make sense?
I've still got my visitor hanging around, so I'm pretty foggy.
It probably sounds like gibberish at your end!   Roll Eyes

Jane, your visitor sounds like a pain in the ... um ... butt!  giggle

Actually, I was kind of thinking already of the sub-blog (you made up a new word -- go you!) thing so that it's easily accessible from the main blog for folks who want to see it but the folks who don't want to don't have to...  how's that for gibberish?  Three hours of sleep and no coffee yet!

Thanks for the opinion

I faced the same dilema a while ago.  My blog had pretty much been updates about the girls only but I had wanted to blog about parenting and cooking and crafting.  I decided they kind of all fit together so I just added to the content of the original blog.  I guess it really depends on how well you can keep up two blogs and if you really want to separate it or if you'll talk about things that refer back to other posts.

I agree with Happy Momma. I want to start a second one, but I don't think I have the time to put into it. If you can make it work with your current one, it might be a whole lot easier!

I think more than one blog is appropriate if you are trying to keep them entirely separate but I think starting a 'column' which is weekly into your blog first and see if the content is something you want to continue and if it starts taking over your blog entirely you can break off.  I can't imagine hosting 3 blogs...1 is plenty of work as it is so I would avoid the time it would take to maintain until you know it is something you want to put that much time into.

This is a most excellent idea! Thanks!

oh you girls are scaring me.  I have been blogging since November last year and mine started off as a purely personal one just to update my family & friends in Aus about the kids and us ... then it evolved.  Now I find I'm offering lots of advice and being paid to do product reviews etc etc.  So I have 2 other blogs in the pipeworks that will focus purely on one subject each and I know I have tons of stuff to contribute to those 2 blogs but now I'm scared that I won't be able to find the time for them.  I barely have the time now between posting comments on other peoples blogs, updating the one I have now and getting involved in these forums, twitter and who knows what else.  Just chain me to my computer now.  I really want to make these 2 work though because they are subjects that I'm passionate about.

Good Luck Tonya, i think one is a full time job!  and posting once a week for someone else...too much for me!  I'm excited to see you take off with this.  you seem very excited and that should translate into success!

i have also considered having more than one blog sometime ago. there are thing i want to write passionately about - such as homeschooling only in one blog. but then, i dont have the time yet to manage different blogs. so i decided to just be happy with one.

i like the idea of zimkandace. maybe it can be another page in the blog.
