I have a hard time following some blogs.  Many times the blogs seem very personal and more geared toward family members rather than mass viewing.

I can't keep track of who all the players are and sometimes there is so much to the story that I can't keep track.  I

This is just my humble opinion, but new bloggers that are trying to attract a following and are concerned about traffic and repeat visitors might want to consider that having a tremendous amount of people that you blog about makes a story difficult to follow.

I am more apt to read something that says, "I was at a soccer game and I overheard the coach say ... " rather than "we were at my son's friend's soccergame ..."

I know it is all about individual writing styles, etc., and I guess I am running two topics here.

One, I have a hard time following a blog meant to be a family history to be passed through generations ...

Two, if there are way to many characters in the cast , I (that is just me, not everyone) have a tendancy to lose interest quickly) ...

Thoughts?

Can't really complain for I think I am very much like this... I better improve my writing skills (if I have any). But your point is valid. Why write in a blog when you can't have any readers?

I agree. I was at a blog last night that she had such a long story and with so many things I just gave up reading. Don't get me wrong I can write a long post but you got to keep it interesting.

But who am I, just a another blogger newbie trying to make in the world! Grin

This seems like such a touchy high voltage topic.  Freedom of speech, etc.  But some bloggers and I am not saying it is anyone through these forums, I am speaking in general.

That is the exact reason, that I have wanted to create MY own blog.  Which I have-so I can just have my family have one, and friends and others like you guys, read my other one.  It took me a long time to learn this though. LOL

Carrie,

It's funny you bring this up because I think it is a valid point.  I love to know details about people I know but that isn't necessarily what is going to attract me to a blog as a returning reader.

I've just recently modified my perspective on my blog.  What was once a family blog where my family came to check up on us is now something I intend to make money off of (I think I may have just jinxed myself by saying that). When I made the transition I went from the minutiae of my daily life to 10,000 foot view taking only the parts I feel like the world would like to read.

Obviously, this is a touchy subject but a valid point.  The general public isn't going to want to read that my sister's boyfriends cousin was (fill in the blank with something funny) but they may want to know a friend of yours was (fill in the blank with something funny)*.

*Anything funny I could come up with was not at all appropriate for the forums.

Not really...cause my blogs started out to just be for me-seriously, I kept them private for about a year...only I knew about it.  My husband knew that I had one, but knew that I just kept it to myself.  I didn't even read other's blogs! Smiley  But then out of town family wanted to see pictures nad hear updates often, and I got tired of e-mailing every one Smiley

OK, I'm confused.  I am wondering why this is a touchy subject?  Don't we all pick and choose who and what we read and who and what we write?  Carrie, I'm just curious here, did someone complain that you didn't read their blog enough?  Or, is someone whining about why no one reads their blog? I think everyone's opinions are valid, and I for one will keep some in mind if I decide to take the 'make money' thing seriously.  (If you read my lastest rant, you'll see that may  be be coming up sooner than later.)

I for one enjoy writing about whatever--no matter who does or doesn't read.  It's for me and for Sophie so we can remember the fun stuff.  That's why I post so many pictures.
The coolest part about blogging for me is meeting people from all over the place and actually becoming friends with them--including this people on this board.
There are TONS of blogs out there that I lurk on, but don't visit very often, and there are some that I lurk but am too intimidated to comment, and some that I can't wait to read everyday.

I of course, thought the world was just like me.  Yep, I am sooo naive in my ripe old 35 years.  Who knew?

Wait, now I'mreally confused.  I didn't sleep much last night........AND my neighbor LOVE the base in his car.  teenagers........jeez

No, no one complained.  I just want to be politically correct here.  Hyper-p.c. actually.

And it isn't the bloggers filling my head with junk either.  It is more or less the media.  Damn media.  I just wanted to toss a few thoughts out there.  People write for so many reasons.  I am always curious why someone writes.

I wonder if people have someone read their stuff and critique it first?

Do you just type, check, and post?

Do you ever regret anything you've posted?

I have almost fifteen years on you and I just wanted to know what others thought and I realize that OMG they are not all like me.  So who are they and what do they wish they knew .

Nothing personal happened to me, just wondering out loud.

Well, thank you for clearing that up..  Cheesy I did read a little bit about you on your blog just a few moments ago and I think I get it.  Very cool out loud wonderings... don't mind if I answer a couple!

Yes I have regretted a post and actually took it off my blog.  I would love to email it to you so you can see the 'real' opinionated and (unfortunately) outwardly judgemental person that I am when I am pissed off.  But, I'm afraid you might not speak to me if you read it, so I think I'll just keep it buried.   I lost a couple of friends because of it -- oops
So lesson learned: to be more curious and WONDER about things-- versus declaring a right or wrong and 'you are soooo wrong' if you don't agree with me-- attitude.
Hardest lesson I've ever had to practice.  I did do a peanut butter test on my blog to practice NOT judging.  I'll have to dig that up too.

I try very hard to edit and revise well before posting, but honestly have never really given my AUDIENCE a second thought until today. hmmmmmmm,,, I bet I start changing more than just the 'look' of my blog--and soon......

thanks for the food for thought.

I wish I knew how to balance time with resposibilities and LIVING my life.  I mean really LIVING.
I have no idea how to do it yet, and I find myself constantly preparing for what's next instead of enjoying the NOW.  I think that's why today, I am sitting in my pj's (eating twizzlers that I have been bragging about all over the boards today) and reading/playing/on my computer.  Wednesdays are my day off (Sophie goes to Grammy's) and I get to do whatever I want.

I do a little bit of both. Sometimes I try to post stuff that I think other people will want to read, other times I post personal stuff that nobody BUT me will find interesting. The reason I do this is because, if people are going to be reading my blog, I want them to see the real me and get to know me as a person instead of just being another Mommy blogger writing about my trip to the grocery store or reviewing the latest Wiggles DVD.

My blog is first and foremost a journal for me, about raising my daughter. However, I have a decent amount of faithful readers (and some random Googlers as well) so I try to keep it interesting too. I also write my thoughts about different things. I can be opinionated but it's MY BLOG, DAMMIT! Seriously, I try not to knowingly hurt any of my friends feelings or write something that would insult them. But I like to be honest, too. It's a fine line, so some topics are better left untouched.

I also do sponsored postings, so I have to bury that crap in there along the way. Which can result in a really random post or random link in an otherwise normal post. I don't want to "clutter" my blog with that stuff but it's good, easy money Wink
