My mom lives in Maine now and absolutely loves it. She lives in Vassalboro which is right outside of Augusta. She also has a place on the water in Stu Bend. They are building a house there for when they retire and they keep their boat there. We used to camp in Maine when I was growing up, so it was somewhere she always thought of retiring, so peaceful, but you are right about the winters
My family has a summer place up in Wilton, we go up for the Blueberry Festival every August. It's really fun, fireworks, old fashioned town fair, etc.!
