My friends and my kids call me Earth Mother. I'm not as green as I'd like to be, but little by little I'm making progress. My latest? I'm getting much better at bringing my own bags to the store.

LOL

Do you breastfeed? Babywear? Cloth Diaper? Delay/Selectively/Not Vaccinate? Make your own baby food?

hahaha - my boyfriend calls me a "dirty hippy vegan".  (I'm not a vegan or even vegetarian).  I thought about doing cloth diapers, but don't.  I do make some of my baby's food.  I did a lot of research on vaccines and have decided to do them all and at the recommended time frame except the chicken pox one.   - I don't think I'm crunchy, maybe a little crispy?   Tongue

I'm a bread baking, scratch cooking, garden growing (not so good at that one) freak!  I wear my babies when they like it, but I do NOT cloth diaper!

I cloth diaper - though not exclusively as I am trying to battle a hard-water issue currently. Smiley
But I made about 80% of my son's baby food, I breastfed him until he was 13 months (he weaned on his own, sadly), I never wore him (couldn't afford a GOOD carrier), we co-slept for many months, I try to go as organic/free-range/no-antibiotic/etc as I can with our food... etc etc.
I'm not 100% crunchy, but pretty close.
I stopped Vaxing my son at 6 months (after a horrible event where the nurse gave my son the WRONG VACCINE and came in and was all dumb and "oops! That was the wrong one, let me go get the right one..."  His pediatrician didn't even come in and say anything after I heard him in the hallway talking to the nurse about it!
GRRRRRRR.
Anyway, I plan on starting again once he hits 2.  I'll be getting the MMR in 3 separate shots, and am going to only do one aluminum-containing shot at a time.  I'm also not doing the varivax until he's 10, and that's only if he's been shown to NOT have immunity yet through a blood test.

Sarah Jewel- I have been thinking about selectively/delaying vaccines for my daughter. She is 13 months and at her twelve month checkup I had them wait on the chicken pox til the next visit. I was just curious where you got your info to make your decisions. I would like to read up a little before just randomly making choices, but my husband and I are really leaning toward delaying more of her shots.

I breastfed both my kids and made a lot of their baby food. They're grown now, so the issues are different. They've learned to carry their own bags shopping, to compost, recycle, and more. I hope they carry it on. They certainly enjoy the "fruits" of my gardening!

I recycle but did not make baby food myself.  I do have my son vaccined but I believe the benefits far out way the risks.  I never co-sleep and do not believe in it because well my husband and I need our bed and special time.  Also our son has always prefered his crib to anything else.  He is all over the place anyways.  I never did the baby wearing because he was always wanted his freedom even at infant stage.

As you can see from the previous posts, there's a full spectrum of crunchiness.  I CD, wear my babies, breastfed my oldest daughter until she was 3, tandem nursed, delay and selectively vax, eat local/organic whole foods, use canvas shopping bags, recycle, co-sleep, attachment parent, neti pot, diva cup (tmi) etc.  I haven't crossed over to eliminating toilet paper or paper towels.  I don't compost.  Though I admire people who do those things.

For the person that asked...  A good starting point to get good info about vax is What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Children's Vaccinations.  I think Dr. Sears has a book about vax too.

Don't know if I'm crunchy or not.
I breastfed until 8 months when I got sick and had to put her on formula and she liked it so I thought... why go through the whole weaning thing again?
I coslept until about six months when she seemed ready to transition to her own bed.
Cloth diapering is not always the most earth-friendly way to go and after careful consideration and research, I realized in my area it's a wash. So we use disposable.
I am absolutely pro-vaccines. I think that the hype against vaccines is overblown and lacking in hard evidence. I feel it's the responsible thing to do (there have been several articles in The Independent about resurgence of diseases due to parents not vaccinating...).
I did make my own baby food. It was easy and far safer.
We're totally BPA free and I switched to glass bottles and BPA free sippy cups.
I recycle and try to do my part, I use both cloth towels and paper towel depending on the mess. I will not give up my toilet paper.
I don't know if I qualify or not... dunno

I'm somewhere in between.  I breast feed, have a giant garden and wear my baby and co-sleep.  She's been away from me a grand total of five hours in the past six months since she was born (and one of those hours was after the emergency c-section when the nurses took her.  Luckily my husband got to stay with her and whenever he spoke she'd calm down).  But I'm definitely for vaccinating and we use disposable diapers (we have water shortages here half the year).

I had a natural homebirth, tried to breastfeed (milk never came in, but I had planned to breastfeed for atleast 2-3 years) we cloth diaper, I wear my baby, make most of his baby food, we are a non vaccinating, Non circumsizing home also. we recycle, we use toilet paper, and sometimes paper towels.  I try to take my own bags to the grocery store, but almost always forget!  AHH!  I'm sure I'll think of more later!!
