Maybe that sounds harsh, but they are and I don't forgive any of the. If you want to drink, drink all you want, but the moment you get behhind the wheel, or plane or whatever and put someone elses life in danger you deserve all the jail time you get and a bunch more. That's my opinion anyhow.

I agree.  If you can afford to drink-you'd think you could find a DD, or afford to get a cab, or just walk.  But thats just me.

Completely agreed.  I can usually be pretty forgiving of people making mistakes- but not this one.

alcohol is stupid--should be outlawed--and why oh why can't we go back to prohibition?Huh??  yeah for generations my family and friends have surrounded themselves with problem drinkers.
I personally think that if you drink and drive you should lose your license immediately.  Or better yet, have to blow a breathalizer to start a car.

I could talk to HOURS on this subject.

I must say that this hits it right on the head for me.  Most of the people who I know that drink and drive actually have a true addiction to alcohol and therefore can't control it.  The hard part is having compassion for the sick person who makes such tremendous mistakes.  ANYONE afflicted with an addiction of any kind does deserves some sort of compassion though--even if it simply means keeping my mouth shut.

I tend to get preachy so feel free to ignore me!

While I don't agree with it being outlawed (that causes additional issues), I do understand where you come from.  My aunt is an alcoholic and it really is sad to see her at family functions, especially since there isn't alcohol ever involved.  She comes drunk and pisses my mother off.  It may be an addiction, but she doesn't care.

What really gets me is the drunk drivers too.  Fine, drink (I do very occasionally), but do not 'ever' get behind a car.  Having a drivers license is a privilege and if you aren't going to think about the people you could kill, think about your family if something happens or even yourself.

I just do not get it!

Well...I have a personal connection to this subject so I'll add my thoughts.

I'll make a long story very short.
I was 19, married my high school sweetheart, we were to leave Idaho and head to Dallas where I had a position waiting for me to start Stewardess training for Braniff Airlines (long time ago!). The day before we were to leave for Texas, we were on a rural highway at 1:00pm in the afternoon on a beautiful June day...when a drunk driver hit our truck...I was thrown thru the windshield and when I hit the ground I was paralyzed from the chest down...it was 12 days after my wedding day.

That was 30 years ago. I can tell you with complete honesty that had the accident not happened, I would not be the person I am today. Was it hard? ABSOLUTELY! And I've had many difficult days as a result of that drunk driver...BUT, I'm a better person because of his actions.

I have had the opportunity to see a side of life that taught me HUGE lessons....one of those lessons was forgiveness.

Now I will go one step further and say something shocking...because I believe in the Law of Attraction, I know now that I am partially responsible for what happened to me that day...there were things that I did, said, and thought prior to my accident that actually "attracted" that event into my reality...you see I beleive that "Thoughts become Things".

I will never condone drinking and driving...I was one of the lucky ones. I survived and have an amazing life!

I think if you drink and drive you should lose your license...PERIOD.
