Okay, I'm so lost!  I think I'm doing this totally the wrong way, please could someone help this newbie out?

I would very much like to start my blogroll, and I'm wondering how to go about it.  I have blogs that I would like to add to my blogroll.  Do I ask them for their permission?  Or can I just post a list of blogs that I like to my blogroll? Do ask them for a link back to my blog?  I know when I used to own a twins site, when we exchanged links, we asked for a link back in return, are blog rolls different? Do I e-mail them after I have created the blogroll to let them know that I added them to my blogroll? What is the correct etiquiette?    I'm so very lost on this. I don't want to upset people and I think I already may have.
Can someone explain the blogrolling steps to me?

Please help me!

Well then, please share with the rest of us.  I just add sites to my blogroll as I come across them.  I have never contacted the site owner or asked for a link back.  Should I?

I just add sites that I like to my blogroll.  I have never come across anyone who did not want their blog on someones blogroll.  I guess you could ask someone before adding them, but I don't think it's necessary.

As far as asking for a link back in return- I don't like it when people do that to me.  I will pick blogs i like to add to my blogroll and I very rarely add someone who is asking me to add them.

Man, I'm going thru this right now...LOL

I think its better to ask for permisison to add links to your blog.  Unless they already have you linked on theirs, or if they are a really popular blog that a LOT of people read, that sorta thing....

if I like the blog, I linked it and let the owners know about it, and I don't really expect any reciprocal not unless they want too, but then if someone ask me if i want to trade a link and i said yes, then i assume they have my link but if i visit their blog and don't see my link, i deleted them.

I always just add it to my blog.  I haven't asked in the past.  I would expect that anyone would be thrilled to get some "love" on your blog!
Blessings...
