Let me ask ya'll..

I am naturally blonde. Sun makes my hair white in places. I used to highlight my hair every 6+ months just to keep it younger looking. But I have lots of FINE hair, so it's not the best thing for my hair. Fast forward to now. It's been over a year since I've gotten any color.   I went to get my hair trimmed (which I am letting get a little longer) and the person who cuts my hair said "you are very gray". I said "yes I am". She said "remember I told you it is not a good idea to let your hair get gray. You have a young son and he'll be embarassed of you!"... then, over the weekend, a friend came for coffee and she said "when are you getting your hair highlighted again?" I said "I'm not planning on it at all! So my neighbor said, "she is right you know, you would look younger with your hair colored.  You are too young looking to go gray".

What are your thoughts? Now I'm all paranoid. I mean, I do look young for my age... but what is wrong with natural hair color?

Just wondering.

I don't think there's anything wrong with going completely natural.  I change my hair color pretty frequently.  I just recently went from dark red to mostly blonde.  And I just have to say, how HORRIBLE of the stylist to say your son would be embarrassed by your coloring!!  I would have been appalled and likely broken down in front of them (partially for hurt feelings, partially to use the "chick card" to make that individual feel bad for their comment).   giggle

More power to you gal!  I say if you are comfortable with your natural color, then keep it!

The hairdresser and neighbor were wrong.  Who cares about gray hair, it is the inner person who counts.  There is nothing wrong with natural hair color.

I have gray hair, mostly.  It is still deciding what color it wants to be.  This week I have auburn hair, who knows what it will be next week.  The point is no one really cares except some who are either looking to make extra money, or are not comfortable with their looks.

At least that is my opinion.

thanks ladies.
I love that my hair is not processed and so healthy...
Come to think of it the person who told me (at my home) has black roots and white bleached hair. I guess I should have said something about that... but I wouldn't....

Anyway... thanks,

That's way out of line!
My mom went grey before she was 30. She looked young too, and she rocked that hair! She got a cute shorter cut and it looked sassy! I love looking at pictures of her and I can't imagine your child being embarrassed because you have grey hair!!!
I am also slowly turning grey. So be it. I love my hair and I don't see the need to damage it to conform to anyone else's expectations...  Cool

Right now I color my hair. It's about 80% gray. I prefer not to have gray hair, at least right now. However I believe others commenting on your choice is out of line.

I color my hair but not because of grey.  Anyways, rock it is say.  It is great to be natural.  Save money, less stress on hair, etc.  I say who cares what other people say about your hair.

Well, first of all I had to look really closely to see the grey that you were talking about! I'm 33 and I have WAY more grey than you do!!! Plus, my hair is brown, so my grey really sticks out. But I don't want to colour it. It's a personal decision and I still say it's no one's business but your own. You don't have to conform to someone else's idea of how you "should" look.

Wear whatever YOU like!  I highlight my hair because I think my brown is the worst color and the greys stick out.  But I hate doing it...tried to go natural and felt horrible!  So for now I color.  If I felt good with the brown and grey, I would do it in a heartbeat!  Maybe when I am MORE grey and less brown?  I don't know...I do know your son couldn't care less!

thanks you guys.
There is a lot Nancy, but you really can't see it unless it is the right light because my hair is so light.
I am keeping the gray. I love it. And I know you guys are right... my son will not care and if he ever does... he can learn to deal with it. hahaha

Thanks again.

Thanks Audrey... I appreciate your comment.
And I will call on you for losing weight.
I have a bad back (seriously parts of my spine are bone on bone) and am limited on excercise. But I want to get thin again.... I have to.

I'll admit.  I looked and I was prepared to tell the "truth" according to me.

Well, ready?  I say leave it alone.  Your hair color matches your face tones and you have a very healthy look ...

I have been getting mine professionally colored for almost twenty years.  She's altered the color as I've aged.  Warmed it or cooled it as the seasons suggested it.  I am about sixty percent gray.  There are so many people that don't even realize I color my hair because I do stay current with it.

Here's my pet peeve:  When I do tell people and they say, OH MY GOSH ... you spend money to have your hair colored?  You can do that yourself, I do.  Well I have to squeeze my teeth together because most of the time I want to say IT LOOKS LIKE YOU COLOR IT YOURSELF TOO.

Alright, shame on me.
